Oooh back to the drawing board. Lost 90 bucks in the Casino, cash game 2 bb. I try and be disciplined and tell myself I will walk when I double up, easier said than done!

I had managed to get my chips up to 180 and was ready to go home after another few hands.... I had Ace-8, called a standard raise. Flop Q,8,8 with a potential flush draw. I thought I would slow play and just call the half pot bet and see if the flush materialized. 10 of diamonds pops up on the turn... Hmmm I think, check he bets a 15 or something I call. Then the 10 on the River. Giving me a full house, or the fools house as I call it when I get off trips. I think I bet or maybe checked and he went all in.

Aghhhhhh I didn’t know what to do :) I had a more than the pot, about 80 and I am sitting think oh no!! Spidey senses ( u know like Spiderman lol ) going through the roof! I talked myself in to him having the flush quickly trying as hard I could to think flush not 10, but obviously he had ja 10.... I said call and of course he had it!

Really need to start listening when those alarm bells are ringing. And stop giving away free cards with silly trips and 2 pairs on the flop. And possibly think about a exit stratergy for cash games i.e double up and split. Too often I find my self over valuing hands in cash games and loosing entiar stacks!

Any hooo rant over :) Good job I won 200 last week and been winning at pub poker sooo plan is back to the table tonight for a wee tournament at the casino to get this hand in the past. Hate having my last hand being such a blatant accumulation of errors.

Oh well wish me luck :)

You seem to have already identified things you would do differently in similar situations - This is a positive outcome from a not so positive situation. There are many players who would do the same and others who would bet out and make opponents pay to catch a draw, or check with the view to raising, maybe the outcome is different maybe it isnt. there is no definitive right or wrong. Poker can be a learning curve and sometimes it can be very steep

I know i prefer to get beaten by lady luck than if i make mistakes myself, but im not immune to making mistakes, noone is, we just need to try and take the positives from these situations.

Hey thanks man. Yeh I recon it all comes down to your oponents. If you know the guys like 90% going to continuation bet in the situation, say late in a tournament, check. If you are playing a cash game full of solid players bet. I am starting to get the whole idea of looking at your enviorment and playing to suit. The obviouse being the shorter handed the wider the range ( obviously within reason, heads up doesnt mean any old cards will do unfortunatly ).

But yeh live and lern I hope! Came home played on line and won 50 on 10p,20p blinds. No bluffs, no hero calls just quick simple poker. Was a few bluffs but effortless bluffs. Not bluffs for all my chips lol

Was on a nice wee run there with my dolly poker, but have found a massive gap in my game! Shorthanded deep stacked cash games against aggressive semi loose players. I was playing this uni kid only playing about a year 3 handed and he completely steam rolled me lol Every time I manned up and bet back I got called and beat or rebet back and had to fold my middle pair that was probably good.

I know its hard to give any tips with my limited information. My plan is to 3 bet preflop in position choose premium hands and bet them aggressive continuation bet on the flop. My problem is I am sooo use to playing 5 minimal handed that when I play heads up, or 3 handed in a cash game I seem lost with no idea where I stand on the flop. Obviously short handed your hands become more valuable but I find myself over valuing and undervaluing my hands grossly. hmmmmm I am confusing my self now :) Plan is I think is to stop calling with mediocre hands (as it leaves me in a wish washy position on the flop) , reraise more preflop with premium. Make more use of position so when the flop does hit and he continuation bets I can be brave I hit atoll and reraise. As I have tightened up preflop I hope I am in a better position on the flop to take hands further. Any hoo point is I need to really work on short handed, any tips where to look for advice? Short stacked seems very much like a tournaments end with easyer decision making but deep stacked I feel unable to control the pot and getting bullied off pots..........

Any hoo any advice would be really helpful :)

Trust your gut. Sometimes you can over think things. Short handed, momentum and psychology play a larger part in the game than in full table ring games. As much as you try to assign a range of hands to an opponent they are doing the same to you and if your opponent trusts their instincts then it is possible (as you said) for them to "steam roll" you.

Sometimes it is worth making what may be a -ev call/move in order to gain an advantage over an opponent. This may be by gaining information on them or making a statement that may discourage certain moves against you in later hands.

Its difficult to assess any situation without actually being involved - Having a good memory is certainly a positive.

Cheers fly, I am playing a wee home game tonight again that I have a feeling will end up in a similar situation, short handed deep stacked (pepole that loose there pocket money go home and play goes on till the early hours).

I am going to make a point of like I said more semi bluff 3 bets preflop with hands that could crush him 6,7 suited excetra, doing this in a full table has not worked out in the past but with this being short handed a little continuation bet might take it down.. Part of the problem is this charecter never shows his hands when he can get away with it, mucking when it goes to showdown when ever he can. Even saying oh I thought I had 2 pair when judging by how quick he reads straight opertunitys and hands at show down he knows fine well what hand he has :) Bloody internet kids lol

    Wish me luck :)

David Williams is a player i admire a lot in the way he can create a table image that is in contrast to his actual game play. There are also a lot of good books out there that talk about pre and post flop play in deep stacked cash games. The local library is a good source on information and if you request a book they dont have generally they will go out and get it.
